Plate It Forward - Food For All's Work in Pflugerville, Texas Featured in Austin PBS's Decibel Series

“If you’ll use it, you can have it”

February 2021, Winter Storm Uri, Pflugerville, Texas.

In a then unprecedented weather event, like many Texans over 100 seniors found themselves without power, water for drinking and sanitation, and no clear path to getting needed food and supplies for the duration.

With longer term help at best literally days and weeks away, our founder Stacey Fletcher along with many other generous volunteers and local supportive organizations sprung into action checking on seniors’ well-being, transporting water in buckets, sourcing and delivering food and other supplies to folks in need.

It was in this action however that she discovered the pervasiveness of often hidden food insecurity among seniors that went way beyond the challenges from the winter storm.

From there she connected with local organizations to source and distribute to seniors ready to eat meals prepared by Cooks’ Nook and initially funded through pandemic-era grants. Through the good works of Keep Austin Fed, rescuing and redistributing food that would otherwise go to waste became a centerpiece of the emerging effort.

Fast forward to 2024 and Food For All is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in the state of Texas and helping improve the lives of anyone impacted by food insecurity through the free distribution of rescued and donated food.
